Media studies question 5
1. Question 5:
How did you attract/address your audience?
The opening sequence has a sense of continuity, this attracts the audience as
it is easier to follow and quickly the narrative of bad meets evil, begins to
unravel.
The audience are addressed when the evil, mysterious character looks
directly at the camera creating a sense of discomfort. The glare makes the
audience aware that the character is some what uneasy and unpredictable.
The eye contact made between the character and the audience, engages the
audience and they feel that they are involved in the narrative.
The young trapped girl also attracts and addresses the audience (especially
females) as they instantly feel empathy for the child as she is clearly in
distress.
The following of the character and the build up of revealing the distressed
character build up tension. this is done through the merging of clips so that
the audience can follow the storyline. The audience become enticed as they
want to know why the girl is trapped and who has kidnapped her. Launching a
series of questions for the audience to ponder on- typical of thrillers.
The background music is up beat and builds tempo attracting an audience as
it helps to build tension. Camera angles such as close-ups, and wide shots
help the audience follow the narrative of the film.
During the editing session I experimented with the lighting, changing
depending on the setting of the scene, this meant the audience could see the
character had a split personality and wanted to continue watching, to find out
about the young girl and also why the male character had such an abnormal
personality.
